Even After Years Of Watching Netflix, She Had No Idea About These Cool Tricks
Shaylynn Totolo 5/9/2016
As if binge watching hours of incredible shows and movies wasn't awesome enough already, did you know there are secret tips and tricks to make it even BETTER?
That's right my friends, consider these secret tricks a secret no more!
You Can Add Ratings, Links And Trailers
First thing's first. You can add a Netflix Enhancer by going here. This little jewel is a schmorgesborg of cool add ons. You can get Rotten Tomato ratings, IMDb profiles and even movie trailers to nearly every movie on there! Bonus, it's FREE!
Spruce Up Your Subtitles
Yep, you can customize your subtitles by changing color, font, size and more. Pretty dang cool, right? Even if you aren't a huge foreign film buff, it helps to be able to watch (or read) movie subtitles just the way you like them. Customize yours by going to Your Account > Your Profile > Subtitle Appearance.
Use "What's on Netflix" When Searching
If searching through "Action" or "Sci-Fi" isn't finding you what you are looking for, try going to What's On Netflix. You can then sort through this "Netflix Bible" to find quirky, interesting and unique subcategories and find exactly what you are looking for. You simply take the code of the genre, and add it to the end of the Netflix URL. Try 751423 for Kids Faith and Spirituality movies.
Binge With Friends Using Rabbit
If you haven't heard of Rabbit yet, get ready to. It's about to be all the rage. Similar to Skype or FaceTime, but with Rabbit you can use the tool to share information, or in this case the last few episodes of Parks and Rec, with your besties. Within the program you can open a window that is then available to be seen by all the parties in the chat. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Netflix Socks Prevent Spoilers
Alright, try and keep up. There is a sock (yes, like one you wear on your feet) that can sense your movement, and pause your Netflix show so that you don't fall asleep on episode 2 and wake up on episode 6 in the middle of a huge plot twist. Although Netflix doesn't actually sell the socks (dang it!), they do show you how to make your own. Go here, for instructions.
Watch At Odd Times
Watching your favorite movies and shows at weird times like first thing in the morning or super late at night for better quality.
Know Your Shortcuts
Here are a few of our favorites, found on Tech-Recipes
F : To enable Full Screen Mode
Esc : To exit Full Screen Mode
PgUp : Play
PgDn : Pause
Space or Enter : Toggle between Play and Pause
Ctrl+Space : Pauses movie and shows and enters Key Frame Viewer; use arrow keys to fast forward or rewind.
Play 'Flix Roulette
Flix Roulette is this incredible tool that allows you to pick a show at random. No more scrolling through what seems like a million titles to find that perfect underground movie. You can choose actors, genres or keywords and let this little gem do the work for you.
Optimize For HD
Chances are, you are paying for HD and may not be taking full advantage of it. To check out your settings, you can go to Netflix.com/HdToggle. Here you can make sure you are set up for HD viewing at all times. A warning though, this can end up costing you. HD viewing, outside of wi-fi can serious suck dry your data plan.
Unblock Other Countries Movies
Did you guys know that other countries have different movies and shows than we do in the U.S.? There are "unblockers" though, like Smartflix, or Media Hint that tricks your program into thinking its in a different country. Unblock at your own risk, however, there have been issues working with these programs in the past.
You can thank me later. No seriously, how awesome are these cool tips?
