In Order To Be More Efficient She Reveals Some Interesting Tips For Those With Busy Lives
Shaylynn Totolo 4/19/2016
With only 24 measly hours in a day, it's time to take advantage of every single 15 minute span of precious time. Take these little tips and tricks to heart, and see for yourself.
Becoming a mother of two boys, and working from home has taught me one very important life lesson. Do everything, in as little of time as possible. Yep, everything. Laundry, work, meals, sustaining two human lives... Any busy parent will tell you, there just aren't enough hours in the day.
Which is exactly why efficiency is key. No more horsing around, time to get down to business.
Sounds easy, right? But when is the last time you took a minute to just breathe? Your brain and body function much more efficiently when they are rested and clear of outside stress. So stop, and breathe. Don't beat yourself up, you're human. There is always tomorrow.
Sit Down And Do It
There are always those annoying little things you HATE doing. Data entry, paperwork... Put on your big girl panties, schedule 15 minutes every day of the week, sit down and blast through it.
Send Someone A Card
Want to be really memorable? Send someone a card. A "Thank You" card, or a "Just Because" card... Put yourself out there, and you will get it in return ten fold. This may seem like a meaningless waste of 15 minutes, but in the long run it will do incredible things for your business and personal relationships.
Create Calendar Events
Take that to-do list you're working off of and put it in your calendar. Yep, every Thursday at 8am is laundry. This Friday at 5pm, you are scheduled to reply to all those emails that have been piling up in your inbox. Sounds like a raging Friday night, huh?
Make Someones Day
This may not seem like a "priority" but it should be. Selfishly, doing something for someone else makes you both feel awesome. So, give a friend a call, surprise your neighbor with brownies, or simply swing by the ice cream shop on the way back home from picking up the kids. It will not only shake up your day (in a good way), it will rejuvenate your routine.
Prioritize For Tomorrow
There are going to be days where you look around your messy house and wonder where the day went. Instead of beating yourself up, or getting frazzled, simply decide what the single most important thing to get done tomorrow is and schedule it for first thing in the morning. Yep, if its laundry, then LAUNDRY will be scheduled on my Google calendar for 7am.
Well, try to anyways. The amount of time wasted stopping what you are doing, acknowledging the interruption, changing tasks, then trying to reboot your brain and get back into the original task is astronomical. Ignore little nuisances, and come back to them later. And FYI, kids are NOT nuisances, don't ignore them.
Eliminate Junk On Your To-Do List
Chances are there are things on your to-do list that have been on there for far too long. They tend to just move from one list to the next without actually getting done. Just take it off already. It's not getting done, get over it and move on.
Network With Coworkers
It's not what you know, it's who. Take a few minutes to connect with coworkers, connect on LinkedIn, or pass along a lead. What comes around goes around. Be present in your work life, take pride in that.
Yep, get upset. Yell, scream, cry. Engage in self pity for a few minutes. Instead of letting something pull, tear and ache inside you, just let it out. You will feel better, and move on quicker.
Ask For Help
Not only from your spouse, mom or friends, but from your boss. Ask for help with a project if something is unclear, or just for feedback. You can always be doing something better, so be proactive, and ask how.
Get Out Of Dodge
My office happens to be my home. To "get out of the office", I have to pack up two kids and drive somewhere just to then unpack them and chase them around for an hour. Not very relaxing. So, instead of leaving the house, I grab a book and sit outside for 15 minutes. Everyone needs a lunch break.
Invest In Yourself
Time to invest more in yourself, and give yourself a fighting chance. Get more done, and faster by following even just a few of these simple and helpful tips.
