If you're embarrassed to kick off your shoes and relax at the beach or pool because of a toenail fungus, check out these DIY remedies.
Fight The Fungus
A nail fungal infection usually starts off as a white or yellow spot on the tip of the nail. As it progresses, the nail may thicken, become brittle, change shape and even darken in color. But a simple tea tree and orange oil rub might just do the trick, since the oils have shown to have fungicidal properties.
Believe it or not, the same two ingredients used to make homemade cake also can help treat a toenail fungus. Baking soda is fungistatic, meaning it can prevent a fungus from growing and spreading. When mixed with vinegar, an acid, this recipe just might do the trick. Add epsom salts and peppermint oil in this version.
The anti-fungal properties of lavender oil makes it fitting for mild cases of toenail fungus. Just apply a few drops of the oil to the infected nail every night and cover your feet with loose-fitting non-synthetic socks.
