Take a small pot and place it inside a larger pot, then fill the space between them with wet sand. Cover the top with a wet cloth and when the water in the sand evaporates it pulls the heat out, thus leaving cool temperatures inside the small pot!
If you don't have any candles handy during a blackout, citrus fruits make a great substitute. Pour some canola oil on the inside of the peel and light the fruit's natural wick. It will burn for a while and smell great!
