The washing machine is a powerful tool we often take for granted, and it can do so much more than just wash clothes. These items can freshen up in the laundry. Just add detergent!
You know how stinky your pup can get after a long time without a bath. And everything he rubs on gets smelly, too—especially his bed. Banish the smell by removing the cover from the bed and tossing it in the wash with your normal amount of detergent. It'll come out spic and span!

When you think about how much sweat and grime finds it way into your gym bag, you'll definitely want to give it a wash. Check all pockets and zippers before placing it through the wash on gentle and let it air dry. Won't it be nice to have a bag free of odor-causing bacteria the next time you hit the gym?
From those weightlifting gloves that smell like death to grimy knee pads, sports equipment is easy to clean in the washing machine. Be sure to close all Velcro and snap closings to avoid snagging on other clothes, then run through the wash as normal. You can also add them to lingerie bags for extra delicate washing and peace of mind.
That's right. Just because your pillows are getting yellow doesn't mean they need to be tossed in the trash. Add one or two normal-sized pillows to the wash with warm water on the gentle cycle. Need them to be extra squeaky clean? We have just the solution.
Toys (For Humans And Pets!)
Toys are a great way to keep kids and pets entertained, and they're unfortunately also a great way to collect bacteria. Give 'em a good wash by putting them in a mesh laundry bag and running them through the gentle cycle with detergent. Air dry any fabric-based toys before using again. Now you can have all of the fun you want without worrying about getting sick!
Sweaty and dirty baseball hats are no match for the washing machine. Blogger MomCrieff uses a stain remover like OxiClean on her dirty caps and lets it sit for 5 minutes before running them through the wash with regular detergent. They'll come out a bit rumpled, but just reshape them as they dry for perfectly intact hats.
Your favorite sneakers get a lot of love when you wear them, so why not treat them to a spin in the wash? Nothing is worse than smelly sneakers, and the washer can banish bad smells in just one cycle. Take off the laces and take out insoles before running them through the wash as normal. Insoles and laces can be washed in a lingerie bag or pillowcase to prevent snagging, advises blogger Tips From a Typical Mom. For extra deodorizing power, add a bit of vinegar to the mix!
Did that ranch dressing spill all over your nylon lunchbox? Don't stress! When wiping it out just doesn't do the trick, send it through a gentle wash cycle inside a laundry bag or pillowcase.
