Some women were blessed with flowing, picturesque movie star hair. However, most of us have more of a frizzy, scraggly, fine situation going on. We can all agree on one thing though, we want the best version of our own hair, right?
According to WebMD, we are born with approximately one million hair follicles on our head. Only about 100,000 of those precious hair follicles cover our scalp. As we age, we will never generate additional hair follicles, so it's extremely important that we care for the ones we've got!
Hairspray, Gel, And Mousse... Oh My!
Our hair endures a lot. Everyday we apply shampoos and conditioners, gels, mousses... and a variety of other products. Whew, our poor hair!
LiveStrong explains that although we use these products to help the appearance of our hair, over time they build up. Normal shampooing doesn't remove the residue that these products leave behind, and you are left with heavy, dull hair. So, what can you do to remove the build-up you ask?
Begin by combining 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of cold water in a container, and stir. If the "vinegar smell" is too much, you can add 5-10 drops of essential oils to help soften the scent, as well as your hair!
Next, wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Once you've rinsed your hair completely, tilt your head back and pour the vinegar mixture over your scalp. Be very careful not to get this solution in your eyes as it will sting.
Massage the mixture into your scalp and through your hair. If you notice bubbles developing, no need for worry! This is the solution working its magic on that stubborn build-up. Finally, rinse with cold water... and enjoy your new life without build-up! Don't you feel lighter already?
Baking Soda To The Rescue
Prefer baking soda over vinegar? Try this concoction instead! Begin by pouring 3 cups of water into a pitcher. Then add 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and stir until completely dissolved.
Next, wash your hair with shampoo, and rinse well. This will remove the initial dirt and oil layer. Pour the baking soda solution along your hairline so that it flows down through your hair. Rinse with water.
In order to prevent dryness, apply your everyday conditioner as you normally would, and then do a final rinse. Voila!
