Pastor’s Son Comes Out As Gay, Then Delivers A Sermon The Congregation Will Never Forget

Coming out as gay is hard for anyone to do - but being a pastor's son makes this huge life moment even that more difficult. Drew Cortez was facing exactly that dilemma as he contemplated whether or not he should tell his devout Christian father about his huge lifestyle announcement.
His father could either react with disappointment and disgust, or he could accept Drew with open arms. The young man mustered all of his courage and approached his parents with the news while driving to school one morning.
Without hesitation, Danny reached over the seats and gave his brave son an enormous hug and told him just how much he loved him.
His father then took things one step further. Danny decided to address the congregation of his Southern Baptist church about his son's choice and how it opened his heart. Drew listened in the pews as his father stepped onto the stage and began his emotionally charged sermon.
The teen told NPR just how defenseless, but proud, he felt during that moment.
"I felt vulnerable. I just remember thinking what was going to happen after this. This is our life now."
After Pastor Danny's moving sermon, the congregation split up and he has since formed a LGBT-friendly church that welcomes those of all walks of life, and sexual preferences. Even though he misses the old church, Danny says he's "at peace" with what has happened - it's all part of God's plan.
Watch Drew bravely come out to the world as a gay man in this special video.
