Reality Star Teaches Son A 'Lesson,' Then Other Moms Explode With Remarks About Her Parenting

Teaching your children how to take care of house chores is an essential element of parenting. It shows them hard work, dedication and persistence, as well as the reward of a job well-done. They also learn how to become self-sufficient and grow into a contributing member of society.
Teaching our sons household chores is incredibly important, as it demonstrates that men can help in all areas of the home, not just in the yard. While one reality star Mom thought she was teaching her son this important lesson about growing up, she never expected to receive backlash from other parents because of it.
Nikkole Paulun shared a photo of her 6-year-old son Lyle that immediately went viral. The 16 and Pregnant star and single Mom of two children is used to hearing contradicting opinions, but in her October post, she received backlash about the way she was teaching her son.
In Nikkole's Facebook post, she shared a photo collage of her six-year-old Son, Lyle. It showed Lyle cooking, doing laundry and putting the dishes in the dishwasher.
In Nikkole's post, she outlines why she chooses to teach her son the importance of household work. She says that it's about more than just completing the tasks.
"I teach my son to cook & do household chores. Why? Because household work isn't just for women. Because one day he might be a single man, living on his own, who will actually know how to do laundry & not eat take out every night. Because one day he might want to impress a significant other with a meal cooked by his own hands. Because one day when he has kids & a spouse, he's going to need to do his fair share around the home."
The single Mom of two says that she is teaching her son to be a gentleman, and that by teaching him his way around the home, he will grow up and be able to take care of himself and his future family. She wants Lyle to not only be a leader at home, but to be a contributing member of society when he grows up.
Nikkole continues on with her message, sharing her thoughts on how it's important to teach our children important life skills, no matter their gender.
"Because I live in a generation of people who complain that school didn't teach us how to cook, do laundry, tie a tie, or pay taxes. Because teaching my son how to do these things and be a productive member of society both outside the home and inside, starts with ME. Because it's okay to let your child be a child but still teach them lifelong lessons along the way. My son will never be too "manly" to cook or do chores. He will be the kind of man who can come inside from changing a tire to check on his pot roast. Who can properly sort his laundry and mow the lawn too. Remember parents, a man who believes he shouldn't have to cook or do chores was once a boy who was never taught any better."
While Nikkole received positive remarks from many of her social media followers, the reality star received some harsh criticism as well.

Some Facebook fans thought Lyle was too young to do these household chores, and others were quick to support Nikkole's parenting tactics, offering stories of their own.

Nikkole's teaching her son how to not only take care of a household, but to be part of a family team. The skills he learns from his Mom will teach him confidence and responsibility as he grows older. This single Mom's example is inspiring other Moms to teach their kids to help out, no matter their gender.
