Doctor Trying To Help Couple Get Pregnant Uncovers Horrifying Secret He Can't Keep To Himself

There are couples out there that want nothing more than to have a baby, yet sadly are unable to do so naturally. Fortunately, there are alternative paths available to help them achieve this dream.
This IVF story starts like most others - after years of trying to conceive on their own, one husband and wife duo from Jackson, Mississippi decided to pursue in vitro fertilization with big hopes of finally becoming parents.
Fertility professionals are much too aware of couples putting all their hope into a treatment which despite of all it's medical advancement, still has a low success rate.
In this particular case however, the doctor had disconcerting news that was unlike anything their office had delivered before...
One of the basic procedures for all patients interested in IVF treatment, involves a routine DNA test from the male and the female partner to get a better sense of their genetic make-up. The test is suppose to help doctors find the best course of action to increase chances of conceiving.

But when the doctors in Jackson, Mississippi performed the DNA test on the married couple, the results shocked them and forced them to dig a little deeper into the couple's medical history. One of the doctors on the case recalls:
"... we wouldn't normally check to see if there was a relationship between the two samples, but in this case the lab assistant involved was shocked by the similarity of each profile. My first reaction was that they must have been less-closely related; perhaps they were first cousins, which does happen sometimes."
The gut feeling put the doctor on the right course, but they were far from being right in guessing that the couple were first cousins. After rechecking the extreme similarities in their DNA profile and seeing the exact same birthday in 1984 in the couple's medical file, the doctor said:
"With this in mind, I was convinced that both patients were fraternal twins ... It was a difficult subject to raise but I had to discuss it with them."
The doctor was ready to break the bizarre turn in events to the couple during their next clinic visit and did so by first asking if they knew they were twins. The couple laughed it off as the husband added:
"... a lot of people remarked on the fact that they shared the same birthdays, and looked similar to each other, but he said it was just a funny coincidence, and that the couple were definitely not related."
When the magnitude of the news sunk in, the couple was in disbelief and insisted that it couldn't be true. A bit more research in just how this could have happened, did in fact reveal that the married couple were biological twins.
Apparently, after their parents died in a car crash, the infants ended up in State care and due to filing errors, were adopted by two separate families, each of which had no idea that the baby had a twin. The couple met years later by chance in college and were instantly attracted to each other because of having compatible personalities and the shared experience of being adopted. The doctor added:
"For me, it's a particularly unusual case because my job is all about helping couples conceive a child. This is the first time in my career that I've been glad that I haven't succeeded in that regard."
Mississippi law prohibits a marriage between siblings, leaving the couple in an even bigger dilemma to figure out just how to move forward with their relationship. Try as you might, this story cannot be any more unusual. It's a lot to take in, but hopefully the couple can work something out!
