For most of us, seeing a construction crew by the side of the road is never a pleasant sight. We automatically associate them with lane closures and traffic delays, and no one in their right mind is a fan of those!
But for one 18-year-old girl, life would have looked a lot different if it wasn't for one of these crew members working by the side of a busy interstate.
Kevin Huntington was at his job doing road work along interstate I-95 in Northern Virginia. He has seen many things over the years while on the job, but on that afternoon he was pretty stunned with what approached him:
"I noticed a female jump out of the car, she came running up to us and you could tell she was pretty distraught and terrified."
Kevin asked her if she was okay even though from the sight of it, he already knew something was very wrong. He recalled her reply thusly:
" ... she said no, there was a man trying to kill her, I told her just stay behind me and I wouldn't let anything happen to her."

For a second this sounds like a scene from a movie, but as the cops would later report, the 18-year-old was not kidding.
Turns out that a 28-year-old man named Aaron Berg had abducted and assaulted this young girl who had managed to jump out of his car as it went down the interstate where Kevin was working.
Kevin followed the girl's instructions and called 911 immediately to report the abduction; at the same time he made sure she stayed safe with him.
In an email released by Corinne Geller who is the spokeswoman for Virginia State Police:
"Berg, the driver, ran after her on foot a short distance before returning to his vehicle and driving off at a high rate of speed. The search continued for the suspect vehicle. The female was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital."
Kevin clearly remembered seeing Aaron Berg get out of the car also before speeding away without the girl. Later the same day, a search resulted in Aaron's arrest at a family member's home in the nearby town of Hanover.
For Kevin this was certainly a relief of sorts and he was thankful that he was present in the right place at the right time to help somebody:
"Pick up the phone and help somebody, you never know whose life you may save."
Here is Kevin's interview with a local news station retelling the chilling incident!
It's hard to imagine ourselves as either the terrified girl fleeing an abduction or Kevin who out of the blue got thrown into a sticky situation while on the job. There is no doubt however that Kevin's bravery and courage saved a young girl's life. For the suspect Aaron Berg, we hope that justice is served!
