Woman Suffers 9 Miscarriages. After Last One, Sister Makes Joke That Quickly Turns Serious

Melissa Kayser had always dreamed of becoming a mother. For Melissa’s entire life, she envisioned having a baby, but after nine miscarriages, that dream was slipping away. That’s when she had a talk with her sister and what started out as a joke quickly turned unexpectedly serious.
After Melissa and her husband, Court, had tried to conceive, they turned to fertility treatments and in vitro fertilization. But still no blessing, no miracle baby. Melissa's hope was quickly dissipating.
She didn't want to, but Melissa finally faced the truth that she likely would never deliver a baby. It was crushing.
"I was devastated because you think as women we are literally born to do one thing and that’s to reproduce and when you can’t do that one thing you feel like a failure.”
Melissa's doctors recommended she try a surrogate, but she wasn't sure she was emotionally strong enough to have another woman carry her child after she had tried so hard herself.
While confessing her fears to her older sister Lisa, Melissa was surprised by an offer her sister made. Lisa had never married nor wanted to be a mother herself. Lisa cracked a joke, but then they both realized it was the perfect solution.
Lisa said it pained her to watch her sister struggle, to ride the roller coaster of emotions she'd felt for years. Lisa said six words that soothed her sister's soul and gave her hope.
"I watched her go through loss after loss and she would send me a text saying, ‘Another miscarriage.’ It was devastating to hear her talking about it, because she has wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember."
There was no turning back for big sis Lisa. She was accompanied by Melissa to medical and psychological appointments to ensure she was fit and able to perform as a surrogate. Once Lisa received approval, the sisters underwent an embryo transfer procedure.
Blessedly, two embryos were implanted in Lisa. Doctors advised the sisters that only one embryo likely would take. But weeks later, Lisa, Melissa and their family were floored to see what was on the ultrasound.
"I think we were all a little bit shocked. My sister was telling them to count again.”
Melissa was carrying twins. Lisa's pregnancy blissfully progressed without complications. Finally, on March 26, twin sisters Ashlynn and Tierney arrived.
“Seeing Melissa and Court, I could just see the raw emotion in their face looking at the babies in the hospital. Seeing the emotion on their faces, it was beautiful.”
The gratitude Melissa felt for her sister's generosity and willingness to fulfill her dream was overwhelming. That, coupled with the emotions of finally becoming a mom, resorted Melissa to tears several times during the birth and thereafter.
Here's more about this beautiful story between two sisters.
This pair of sisters from Omaha, Neb., have an even stronger bond after God blessed them with the birth of twins. Melissa said she could "never put into words" what it meant to have her sister as her surrogate. Melissa said she made the journey "exciting, beautiful and a lot of fun." Welcome to the world Ashlynn and Tierney!
