Man Sees Kids In The Bed Of A Truck, He Realizes The Reason And Is Sick To His Stomach

When Todd Arredondo, 31, of San Antonio, Texas, saw a photo of children swimming in the back of a pickup truck, he felt a tinge of sadness that they didn't have a kiddie pool to enjoy during the hot summer months.
But then he became quite upset when he read the negative, derogatory comments being made about the family and the kids that had been posted.
When Todd realized what was going on, he knew he needed to do something. What he did next has some people calling him a hero.
Todd shared his feelings with the TODAY show:
"It literally brought tears to my eyes. I thought to myself, 'I have to do something, I have to stop this.'"
Todd, who owns an urban mining company, became an amateur sleuth and found out the family's contact information. Then, he presented them with an inflatable pool, so they didn't have to use the makeshift pool consisting of a tarp laid out in the bed of a pickup truck.
The family's response and the overwhelming, genuine gratitude the children expressed to Todd inspired him to help even more children afterward.
"It was truly rewarding to see their smiles."

So Todd established a nonprofit organization called Pools for Kids and launched a GoFundMe campaign so others could get involved with him in helping impoverished, cash-strapped families enjoy this wonderful summertime pleasure.
"This is a humbling experience for me. When I was a kid, a gentleman bought a water balloon for me when my family couldn't afford one. I never forgot that moment; kids never forget."
Thanks to the generosity of strangers and Todd's own financial contributions, Pools for Kids has raised over $20,000, which has gone to providing pools for dozens of families. Todd has learned a valuable lesson along the way.
"Being kind is self-rewarding. I learned to live simply so others can simply live."

Todd jestingly refers to himself as the "black-bearded Santa Claus." On the Pools for Kids Facebook page, people can refer someone who needs his help or describe their own situation. Just like the wintertime Santa Claus, Todd is delivering fun and joy, but during the summer.
"First and foremost, it's about the kids' needs. I want to make sure the kids are put first, regardless of their family's situation. When you see the laughing, the enjoyment - and it's something so simple, too, it's a pool. It's rewarding. It's worth every bit of effort."
This summertime Santa hopes the organization will continue to grow and expand across the country, too, to help families and kids nationwide. Todd has been thrilled to receive help globally, too, from people in Mexico, Canada and Australia.
"This is my vacation now. Every summer, every year, for the rest of my life ... That support has been amazing. But it's not just about pools. This mission is to show kids the meaning of generosity, because the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest changes. It's about teaching them kindness, not greed. Love, not hate."
Many people have positively commented on Todd's Pools for Kids Facebook page, praising him for following the Lord's command to help others and blessing the children in a creative and fun way. What a unique way to help children and families find a bit of fun during the summer!
