Farmer Spots Rabbit Hole On His Land, Then Discovers It Leads To A Mysterious Ancient World

When a farmer from near Shifnal in Shropshire stumbled across a formerly unseen hole in his field just a meter or so below ground, he paused to check it out. At first glance, the hole didn't really seem to be anything out of the ordinary. That is, until the farmer poked his head inside it.
What he discovered can only be described as unbelievable...
The discovery of one rabbit hole led to another and another until the farmer finally figured it out. Lying just on the other side of that rabbit hole is an elaborate network of caves called the Caynton Caves, believed to be built by the Knights Templar Catholic military order approximately 700 years ago.
The Knights Templar was founded in the 12th century to supposedly guard pilgrims making their way to Jerusalem along dangerous roads. They essentially were armed, monk-like knights who had been granted certain legal rights and whose actions were supported by the Catholic Church.
Some of the caves in this supposed sanctuary are accessible only on hands and knees with ceiling heights no greater than six feet. They are hand carved out of sandstone and feature alcoves and a font. Historic England describes them as a grotto and were allegedly suspected of being used for "black magic rites."
The network of caves feature a variety of designs including neo-Norman decorations between columns, a neo-Norman doorway with beak-hands and roll moulding, and quatrefoils. There are what looks like round barrels or cauldrons carved out of sandstone, too.
There are even faces and bodies of figures carved out of the sandstone walls that are a bit creepy when spied in the dark with only a candle to light the way, throwing shadows everywhere. Slivers of natural light spill onto the hard floor in the few areas where the outside world creeps into the dark caves.
The walkways are flanked by carved sandstone arches. One spot has what seems to be a decorative cross etched into the wall. There are ledges and nooks carved out of the walls, too. One could easily get lost in this labyrinth.
However, because strangers kept showing up wanting to continue practicing black magic and carry out other rituals in present time, the landowners had the entrances sealed. But they are shut off from the rest of the world no longer.
See for yourself in this video how intriguing these caves happen to be.
These magical caves were meant to be kept secret for centuries. Recently, an English photographer crept through them, noting that he would never have found the entrance if he hadn't been actually looking for it. You really need to see it to believe it.
