Man Mows Lawn With Tornado Behind Him
by LifeAspire Staff 6/6/2017
What kid hasn't looked at their beloved dad at some point in their childhood with a complete sense of aw and admiration! For one 9-year old in Alberta, Canada, she has some solid back-up to the claim that her dad has no fear.
Cecilia and Theunis Wessels live in Three Hills, Alberta, with their 9-year old daughter. Their house backs up to a fenced-in yard which one can only assume had been neglected for longer than either Cecilia or Theunis would have liked.
That is, until one of them decided to do something about it!
Cecilia was woken up from her nap on a recent afternoon by her daughter who seemed terribly concerned. Before she had gone down for her nap, Cecilia knew that her husband was determined to check-off mowing grass from his to-do list that day, but what she saw when she was awoken mid-nap blew her mind away.
Apparently, her daughter had noticed what looked like a twister or a tornado lurking in the background as Theunis continued mowing the yard and refused to come inside. Even to a 9-year old the situation looked a bit precarious which is why she had decided to wake up Cecilia.
Cecilia who couldn't help taking a picture of the situation, posted it on her Facebook page to share with her parents in South Africa, with a humorous caption that said:
"My beast mowing the lawn with a breeze in his hair."
Needless to say, it didn't take long for the picture to go viral. It truly looks like something someone created digitally to get a few laughs. But as confirmed by the weather folks, it indeed was a real tornado which was indeed ignored by Theunis while on his mission to complete his yard work!
The story is perhaps a little scary and funny at the same time, and so, it's no wonder this has garnered so much attention. The most common reaction to Cecilia's post was of course the question as to why her husband was still out there mowing the lawn in this weather and why she wasn't freaking out about it.
Apparently, tornados are pretty rare for the Three Hills area in Alberta, and so it was hard to turn your back on this anomaly. She added that:
"Our whole street, everyone was on their back patios taking pictures."
Maybe that can bring some peace for those on edge, wondering why anyone would be mesmerized by something that has the power to destroy entire towns and take lives.
In speaking with the man himself, this is what Theunis had to say about the whole deal:
"It looks much closer if you look in the photo, but it was really far away. Well, not really far, far away, but it was far away from us. I was keeping an eye on it."
Most of us are used to seeing the pictures of devastation left behind by a tornado. Heck, many of us have even lived to tell the scary tale. This time however, it looks like Theunis was correct in assuming that mother nature was not really interested in creating any trouble.
We doubt though that he will ever live down the title of being the man who mowed his yard with a tornado behind him! After all, we doubt there are others who are jumping to grab that title anytime soon.
