Michael Phelps has wowed Americans for years with his lightening-quick swimming and personable attitude! Even since retiring from the Olympic games, Michael has decided to share his talents and coach student athletes enrolled in Arizona State University.
While Michael has shattered nearly 40 world records, garnered more than 20 Olympic gold medals, married the love of his life and had a darling little boy, there's been one challenge that has eluded him....
Shockingly, the one thing Michael hasn't yet conquered is swimming with great white sharks! But that's all about to change since the Discovery television network gave him the chance to do so for this year's Shark Week!
Discovery shared the news in an official press release!
"They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win.
An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world's most decorated athlete takes on the ocean's most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark - the race is on."
While the network may be excited to have Michael on their program, no one is more thrilled about the shark swim than Michael himself.
Michael took to Instagram to share his excitement and spread the word!
"I was able to do something I've always wanted to do-- swim with great white sharks! #bucklist "
If you'd like to catch Michael swimming with great white sharks, be sure to tune into the Shark Week program airing on Sunday, July 23 at 8:00 EST.
Michael may be able to fly past some of the world's best swimmers, but how will her fare against a massive great white shark?
