It's been said that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the mysteries of the ocean - and this type of incredible footage proves that the "Big Blue" truly is fascinating. A group of hungry humpback whales gather together off the coast of Alaska and partake in a feeding ritual that's leaving the Internet in awe.
Instead of working for their meals all alone, the massive mammals use their collective abilities to take in a massive amount of food! The Marine Mammal Center explains why this type of group feeding is so effective.
These air bubbles trap the smaller organisms in the water nearby and help the other whales fill their stomachs. While bubble net feeding is something that happens regularly with schools of humpbacks, it's rarely captured in such a high quality like this!
The drone operator recognizes that this feeding frenzy is something people on shore would love to see and carefully holds the drone feet above the ocean's surface. Thankfully, the operator knew how to handle the equipment and was able to record the incredible footage without missing a thing!
