Such is the world we live in that any time a stranger comes around, our first thought is to put our guard up and prepare for something bad to happen! Especially for those who are parents or caretakers of young children, this fear of dealing with people we don't know, is always hard to shake off.
Alyssa Hacker from Oklahoma is the mother a little boy named Owen and she admits to being one such parent who tends to be extra vigilant when in public places. Recently, Owen and she were shopping at their local Target when an older man they didn't know approached Owen who was happily sitting in the shopping cart.
Owen had managed to find three colorful stuffed dinosaurs and had instantly fallen in love with all of them. Alyssa, like any sensible mother, was trying to see if she could change Owen's mind to maybe keeping just one instead of all three dinosaurs. It was in midst of this negotiation when the elderly man stopped by their side.
Owen, who was blissfully unaware of such things, started playing with the elderly man. Alyssa was not entirely comfortable with his close proximity to Owen even though she was right there with him.
She remembers feeling a little panicked and wasn't sure how to shake off the old man. She recalled in a Facebook post later that:
"He turned around and said "hey sweet boy" he proceeded to play dinosaurs with Owen and with this crazy world we live in I was a little hesitant as too how close he was with Owen."
After a little while of play, this stranger reached for his wallet and pulled out a $20 bill. He folded and stuffed the bill in Owen's shirt pocket saying that:
"I just lost my 2 year old grandson last week. You take this money and buy this boy all three dinosaurs"
Alyssa couldn't believe what she had heard! The elderly man, whose name she hadn't thought of asking, wiped a tear and simply patted Owen's back before leaving. Needless to say, she instantly began sobbing in the middle of Target after the man had already walked off.
Alyssa was left speechless with what she had just experienced. But Owen, thankfully, hadn't forgotten his manners. According to Alyssa:
"Owen yelled "thank you" the gentleman turned around and yelled boomer sooner! There is still some good in this world."
Alyssa came home that day and shared her little experience on Facebook via a post and a picture of Owen holding the $20 bill. Clearly she wasn't the only one so touched by the incident; her post ended up being shared over 124,ooo times and received 14,000 comments and over 300,000 reactions!
